๐ The Monday Capture That Keeps a Week Honest
By Daniel Ziedins (danielziedins.com)
A 12-minute Monday ritual: capture every open loop, sort it into the right mode, and choose one outcome before the week chooses for you.
Sunday plans feel noble. Monday inbox feels like a different life. The fix is not a prettier template. It is a short capture you can finish before the first meeting, school run or group text takes the day.
Twelve minutes, three passes
Pass one โ empty your head (4 minutes). Every promise, nag and half-remembered errand goes into Inbox. Do not date it yet. Capture is not planning.
Pass two โ put it in the right home (5 minutes). A personal commitment stays in Personal Mode. A grocery or bill moves to Family Mode. Client or team work goes to Business Mode. A prayer, gift or ministry task goes to Ministry Mode. If it does not have a real consequence this month, delete it.
Pass three โ name one outcome (3 minutes). If nothing else moves, what would make this week a win? Put that card where you will see it when you open Today.
Dates are for real deadlines
A due date should mean something. Dating every idea creates false urgency and trains you to ignore the calendar. Use Today for work you can finish today. Use Upcoming to spot a crowded week before it arrives. Leave the rest undated until a later review.
The longer version of this habit is in how to build a weekly planning system that lasts. If family coordination is the hard part, pair it with organizing family tasks without constant reminders.
Why this sticks
A cluttered mind is not an open mind. It is a full one.
Writing things down is not control. It is how you stop spending the best hour of the day remembering what you already decided. Order makes room โ for the person in front of you, and for the work that actually matters.
